Walmart and Sam’s Club raise critical donations for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

SAN ANTONIO, TX (September 8, 2023) – Walmart and Sam’ Club associates rallied together to spark good and change kids’ health at CHRISTUS Children’s through Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals). Inspired by Walmart’s and Sam’s Club’s belief that every child deserves the chance to live better, associates and customers  came together to raise more than $657,265 for CHRISTUS Children’s through in-store fundraisers.

The funds raised will support the hospital’s most urgent needs, as its specialists provide the best possible care to children, investing in research that discovers life-saving treatments and cures, training the next generation of doctors and nurses, and offering families, like Camilla’s, comfort and peace of mind during the most trying moments of their lives.

When Jenny, a Sam’s Club associate, was pregnant, she was told her baby, Camilla, would be born with Trisomy 21 – Downs Syndrome. She entered the world six weeks early, weighing 3 pounds, 10 ounces, and Jenny soon learned Camilla also had heart complications. Camilla underwent emergency life-saving surgery to repair two holes in her heart. Jenny and Camilla’s grandfather, Hector, are both Sam’s Club associates and had raised funds for CMN Hospitals for more than a decade, never thinking they would ever need services provided in a children’s hospital. Today, their tradition of raising money for children and families means even more.

Camilla is now four years old and continues to see several specialists at CHRISTUS Children’s. She is also a member of the CHRISTUS Children’s Patient Ambassador Club, making visits to local stores and inspiring Walmart and Sam’s Club Associates.

With each dollar raised at Walmart and Sam’s Club, CHRISTUS Children’s can provide treatments and support patients desperately in need today, so that they can fulfill their potential for tomorrow.

“Here at CHRISTUS Children’s, providing care for kids and their families is our top priority. From research, health and safety education, and preventative care resources to support services that build healthier communities, and beyond, we are here to continue doing more and becoming even better because our patients and their families deserve it,” said Ian Thompson, president and chief development officer, CHRISTUS Children’s Foundation. “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to all Walmart and Sam’s Club customers and associates. Your efforts help provide necessary funds that ensure our children’s hospital continues to provide our communities with the tools to support  future generations.”
