Moo-narch Migration

The 9-12th Visual Arts Program at the Young Women’s Leadership Academy of SAISD, led by Ms. Sharriah Martinez, is a dynamic, inclusive community of student artists committed to creativity, collaboration, and cultural impact. Rooted in the values of leadership, service, and expression, the program is represented by 42 members of the National Art Honor Society, who lead with vision both in and beyond the classroom.

“Moo-narch Migration” is inspired by the annual migration of the monarch butterfly through the historic Pearl. This piece celebrates their journey, symbolizing transformation, resilience, and the beauty of nature in motion. Pearls were incorporated into the piece to symbolize that, through pressure and time, there is growth and change. They represent the quiet strength and grace that emerge through challenge, echoing the monarch’s long and delicate voyage.
