Ferdinand’s Fantasy

Kathleen Whittle is a Texas-based fine artist drawn to the emotional beauty found in the people and places we love. Whittle was named the official Fiesta San Antonio Artist in 2022. That same year, she opened Gallery 9 in the heart of Southtown, which serves as a creative hub for connection, expression, and community.

Ferdinand isn’t your typical tough Texan bull. His big heart beats for blooms, not battles. His sleek black coat bursts with a living tapestry of San Antonio’s native flora—bright sprays of blue plumbago, rich red Bougainvillea, and vibrant yellow of the black-eyed Susans. The proud spikes of the agave, the waxy yellow blooms on the prickly pear cactus, and the delicate petals of the bluebonnets each serve as a love letter to our region’s rugged beauty and resilient spirit.

Ferdinand celebrates the union of strength and beauty that defines the Texas Hill Country: sunbaked earth nurturing resilient beauty, and a region that blooms with its own unique character.
